For parents
You do not need to become the therapist.
Your role is smaller and more useful: understand the goal, practise it briefly in real life, and tell us what happened.
Consultation and assessment fees are explained before booking.
Your part in the plan
Bring the child you know. Take home one manageable next step.
You see your child across meals, dressing, school runs, play, and difficult evenings. That context helps a therapist choose goals that matter outside the clinic and notice progress that a weekly session might miss.
Anything to practise should be shown to you first, explained in plain language, and kept small enough to fit the day. You can then report what worked, what felt awkward, and what needs changing.

One small example
Practising “help” while getting dressed
- Choose one familiar moment. Use the same zip or shoe the therapist has discussed with you.
- Pause before stepping in. Give your child a brief chance to look, gesture, make a sound, use a word, or try the movement.
- Respond, then stop. Help when they communicate or attempt the step. Repeat only as advised, so practice stays calm and brief.
This is an illustration, not a plan for every child. Your therapist should tailor the prompt, timing, and goal.
Parent coaching and methods
The therapist shows you practical responses to try at home, usually as part of your child’s therapy plan.
The parent channel
An invite-only WhatsApp channel shares practical posts and centre news; ask your centre for current joining details.
Optional materials
Walnut materials are optional. Cornerstone has a materials partnership and receives a small percentage if a family subscribes through the practice.
